Tanagers rally to defeat Orioles 52-41 By Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers rallied in the second half and then pulled away to beat the Lennox Orioles 52-41 in boys� basketball Jan. 14 at Lennox in a win capped by a 17-2 fourth-quarter surge.
Vermillion had trailed by four after the third quarter.
Chad Teigen scored 20 points, and made six rebounds and two steals. Kyle Brunick poured in 10 points in the second half, grabbed seven rebounds, and made three steals and one assist.
The score was 11-all at the end of the first period, the Tanagers trailed 23-19 at halftime, and then trailed 39-35 going into the final period.
Vermillion held onto the win from the free throw line, making 22 of 31 charity tosses to 7 of 9 for Lennox.
�We really played well when it counted,� said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska. �Our defense was the best it�s been all year. Great team defense. We held them to two points in the fourth quarter. These kids have worked hard and they deserve that win.�
Vermillion improved its record to 4-4, while Lennox dropped to 3-5.
Vermillion made 2 of 9 three-pointers. The Tanagers made 14 of 42 field goals, while Lennox was 15 of 41 from the field. Lennox hit 4 of 18 three-point attempts.
