Vermillion JV victorious over West Central By Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers pulled away in the second half to defeat the West Central Trojans 59-46 in boys� basketball Jan. 6 at home. The Tanagers shot 52 percent from the field in the contest.
Jeff Donnelly scored 25 points.
�He did an excellent job of running the offense and keeping all of his teammates involved,� said Vermillion JV coach Jon Reuvers.
The Tanagers trailed 14-12 after the first quarter, led 29-25 at halftime, and then led 46-35 going into the final period.
�Despite a slow start, the junior varsity team played outstanding from top to bottom,� said Coach Reuvers. �They did a great job executing the game plan.�
The Vermillion JV improved its season mark to 4-1, while West Central fell to 2-3.
Vermillion made 6 of 14 three-point tries and connected on 5 of 13 from the line. The Tanagers hit 24 of 46 field goal attempts, while West Central was 20 of 59 from the field. West Central connected on 2 of 12 three-point attempts and made 4 of 8 free throw attempts.
