Walton, Schaack take scholastic honors

Walton, Schaack take scholastic honors Laura Walton and Brad Schaack were selected as the Vermillion High School December Students of the Month. Their scholastic efforts will be recognized with a $100 scholarship from First Bank & Trust in Vermillion.

Walton was noted as "invaluable" for "her dedication and talent" by her faculty endorsement. She has been involve with the German Club, Earth Club, SADD and the Dream Team. Her leadership is reflected in her roles as president of the National Honor Society, as editor-in-chief of the yearbook, and as a recipient of the Governor's Leadership Excellence Award.

Walton's educational plans are to attend Augustana College in Sioux Falls. Her parents are Brian and Pamela Walton.

Schaack "is always 'with it' in class � alert, attentive, and interested. This comes through in his good works and high grades," according to his recommendation. His list of honors include Academic All-State in golf, Governor's Leadership Excellence Award, National Honor Society, Homecoming candidate, and an MVP on the golf team.

He intends to study electrical engineering at either Kansas State University in Manhatten or South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City. His parents are Tom and Peggy Schaack.
