Arlington too strong for VHS varsity By Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers were defeated by the Arlington Cardinals 71-58 in boys basketball Jan. 29 at home as the winners held the lead after each quarter.
�We played well at times again tonight,� said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska. �We need to extend that effort throughout the game. We had some good looks offensively but missed too many. Defensively, we allowed some penetration that really hurt us.�
The Tanagers trailed 14-12 at the end of the first period, trailed 35-28 at halftime, and then trailed 52-44 after the third quarter.
The loss dropped Vermillion varsity to a record of 4-8, while Arlington improved to 12-1.
Vermillion varsity hit 3 of 11 three-point attempts and sank 15 of 26 from the line. The Tanagers hit 20 of 51 field goals, while Arlington was 26 of 48 from the field. Arlington connected on 3 of 12 three-point attempts and connected on 16 of 26 free throw tries.
