Check It Out By Anne Marshall Library Book Club

The Vermillion Public Library Book Club will hold its February meeting Feb. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room. This month's selection for discussion is The Sweet Hereafter, by Russell Banks.

After a tragic bus accident in a quiet little New York town, 14 children are dead and the survivors are coming to terms with this horrible tragedy. The Sweet Hereafter is written through the perspectives of four characters, the bus driver, the gentleman driving the car behind the bus, a lawyer on the case, and finally a child crippled in the crash.

Released as a motion picture in 1997, The Sweet Hereafter won the Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix.
