Forum to address gay rights The University of South Dakota Political Science League will hold a forum on the topic of Gay Rights on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in Old Main's Farber Hall.
The event, titled "Gay Rights: Both Sides Speak," will feature panelists on both sides of this controversial issue.
Panelists include Barbara Himmel-Roberts, president of the Sioux Empire Gay and Lesbian Coalition; Jennifer Ring, executive director of the ACLU of the Dakotas; Robert Regier, executive director of the South Dakota Family Policy Council; and Matt McCaulley, an attorney and former South Dakota State legislator. The event will be moderated by Dr. Richard Braunstein of USD's political science department.
The forum will be split between preset questions and questions from members of the audience. Keeping with the non-partisan nature of the group, both sides will be represented in an effort to help those attending formulate their own opinions on the topic.
"The issue of gay rights is certainly a hot topic in the political arena," said Lynn von Koch, the Political Science League president. "This event is a continuation of our effort to spark informed political dialogue amongst members of the campus community at USD."
