Freshmen battle Beresford for victory By Jim Prosser In a back-and-forth contest, the Vermillion Tanagers battled to a tough up-and-down win over the Beresford Watchdogs 30-22 in boys� basketball Feb. 1 at Beresford.
The game see-sawed back and forth until Vermillion freshmen took control in the closing stanza. The score was even at 20-20 going into the fourth quarter.
Jackson Freidel played a solid, all-around game.
The Tanagers fell behind 7-2 after the opening period, the score was 12-12 after the second quarter, and the score was 20-all after the third quarter.
Vermillion held onto the win from the free throw line, making 11 of 25 charity tosses to 2 of 6 for Beresford.
�We played much better both defensively and offensively,� said Vermillion freshmen coach Eric VanLaecken.
Vermillion improved its record to 4-4, while Beresford dropped to 2-6.
Vermillion hit 1 of 5 three-point attempts. The Tanagers hit 9 of 29 from the field, while Beresford was 8 of 34 from the field. Beresford hit 4 of 10 three-point tries.
