Lavin earns 200th win Sophomore forward Vanessa Yanez had 17 points and four rebounds to lead the South Dakota women's basketball team (14-9, 2-6 NCC) to an 81-71 win over Minnesota State, Mankato in North Central Conference basketball Feb. 11 at the DakotaDome.
The victory represented USD head coach Chad Lavin's 200th win at South Dakota. Overall he is 200-111 at USD.
Overall, USD had five players score in double figures, including a career-best 10 points from sophomore forward Erica Schroeder. Vanessa Yanez hit 7-of-10 field goals, including 2-of-4 from three-point range. She also recorded a pair of steals. Senior forward Kayla Jacobs also played a key role by scoring 11 of her season-high 13 points in the opening half. Jacobs was 3-of-5 from three-point range. USD also received 12 points from both Brittany Bessert and Ashley Robinette. Meghan Woster contributed six points, four assists and six rebounds.
Jenni Flynn had a team-high seven rebounds and added six points. She also extended her school-record streak for consecutive free throws to 31 on the season.
USD won the battle in the paint, outscoring MSU 38 to 26, and also held a 32 to 19 advantage in bench points. Overall, USD made 28-of-53 field goals for 52.8 percent.
