Madison defeats Tanager JV 42-28 By Jim Prosser The Vermillion girls� junior varsity Tanagers were downed by the Madison Bulldogs 42-28 in girls� basketball Jan. 25 at Vermillion after being buried by a first-half deficit.
The Tanagers received strong offensive efforts from Brittni Stewart, who scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Anna Isaacson, who contributed five points.
MHS jumped in front 13-2 after the first quarter, and held an edge of 17-10 in the second quarter. Vermillion JV had an advantage of 7-4 in the third period to cut the deficit to 34-19 going into the final period.
�Our team started flat and never got the momentum against the physical Bulldogs,� said Vermillion JV Coach Lenni Billberg.
The loss dropped Vermillion JV to a record of 3-4, while MHS improved to 5-2.
Vermillion made 1 of 4 three-pointers and connected on 9 of 17 free throw tries. The Tanagers connected on 9 of 32 from the field, while MHS was 15 of 35 from the field. MHS made 0 of 4 three-point tries and hit 12 of 20 free throw tries.
The Tanagers had some excellent individual performances in defeat.
�Great defense was played by Kristina Blythe,� coach Billberg said.
