Obituaries Ronald Erickson

Ronald A. Erickson, 71, of Elk Point, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005 at Sioux Valley Hospice in Vermillion.

Funeral Service was 10:30 on Monday, Feb. 21, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point, with Rev. Mary Feistner and Associate of Ministry, Bert Burwell officiating. Burial was in church cemetery. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point. The family was present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the church.

Ron was born in rural Elk Point on March 10, 1933 to Alfred and Isabel (Venn) Erickson. Ron attended Peterson Country School, Union County rural school and graduated from Vermillion high school in 1952.

Upon graduating from High School, Ron joined the Air Force and served four years. Ron married Connie Meeves in February 1959 and made their home in Elk Point. Ron and Connie had three children: Richard, Andrea, and Carole.

Ron worked in agricultural-related businesses throughout his life. Throughout his 25 years of sobriety, he helped many live "one day at a time" throughout Alcoholics Anonymous.

He is survived by his son, Rick and his wife, Leslie, of Elk Point, his daughters, Ann and her husband, Mike Gorder of Estelline, and Carole and her husband, Randy Reindl of Adel, IA. Ron was surrounded by eight loving grandchildren, one sister, Duaine and her husband, Dick Forman of Sioux Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Isabel Erickson, and his wife, Connie in June 1978.

Myrtle E. Larsen

Myrtle E. Larsen, 91, of Vermillion, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Morningside Manor, Alcester.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermillion, with the Rev. Judith Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in BluffView Cemetery, Vermillion. Visitation is 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.

The daughter of Gustav A. and Anna (Skarsem) Johnson, Myrtle was born May 11, 1913 in Viborg. She graduated from Viborg High School, and for 30 years was employed as a clerk in Newberry's Department Store in Vermillion.

She married Stanley Larsen Nov. 21, 1936 in Elk Point. He died May 3, 1993. Myrtle was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermillion.

She is survived by a son, Gary Larsen, Oakland, CA; a daughter, Gloria Bell, Lincoln, NE; a sister, Evelyn Styles, Vermillion; a sister-in-law, Yuella Terrio, Lincoln, NE; five grandchildren, Eric (Heather) Larsen, Karl Larsen, Tammy (Harlan) Sorensen, Bryan (Lisa) Bell, and Trent (Jenifer) Bell; and 10 great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Christopher Larsen, Jessica and Abigail Sorensen, Hayley, Garrett, Karissa and Nickolas Bell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Arlo Johnson; a sister, Bernice Delaney; two infant sisters; three half-sisters, Marie Hansen, Alice Harrington and Ragna Dwyer; and a foster brother, Robert Terrio.

Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home, Vermillion, was in charge of arrangements.

Amos H. Gran

Amos H. Gran, 89, formerly of the Maskell/Newcastle, NE, area, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at Parkview Haven Nursing Center in Coleridge, NE.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Maskell. Burial was in the Lime Creek Cemetery, rural Maskell. Visitation began at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, with the family present at 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE.
