Tanager boys' varsity leashes Madison Bulldogs By Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers downed the Madison Bulldogs 57-44 in boys� basketball Feb. 5 at Madison. The Tanagers shot 53 percent from the field in the contest.

Andrew Pier scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and made four assists and two steals. Jason Donald poured in 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

The Tanagers led 17-5 at the end of the first period, went into the locker room up 34-17 at halftime, and then led 45-31 after the third period.

�We came to play today,� said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska. �I�m proud of how hard we played. We did a nice job of fighting off their comeback attempt. We moved the ball well offensively and got good shots. Great win!�

Vermillion improved its season mark to 6-8, while Madison fell to 5-9.

Vermillion connected on 2 of 4 three-point attempts and sank 17 of 24 free throw tries. The Tanagers hit 19 of 36 field goals, while Madison was 17 of 54 from the field. Madison made 4 of 22 three-point tries and sank 6 of 11 free throw attempts.

Several significant individual efforts contributed to the win.

�Every player contributed to the victory,� coach Huska said. �Team unity and teamwork equals winning results.�
