Tanager JV tops the Bulldogs 31-21 By Jim Prosser The Vermillion girls� junior varsity Tanagers topped the Beresford Watchdogs 31-21 in girls� basketball Feb. 1 at Beresford as the winners led after each quarter.
Brittni Stewart was tough from the block with eight points and 10 boards.
�She continues to improve at the low post,� said Vermillion JV coach Lenni Billberg.
The Tanagers took the lead 9-5 after the first quarter, and margins of 13-4 and 6-2 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 28-11 going into the final period.
�Alicia Brown scored seven points in 8 minutes of play, and also made three steals and grabbed three rebounds,� said coach Billberg. �Rachel Odens scored seven points and pulled down three boards in limited play.�
Vermillion JV improved its record to 4-6, while Beresford dropped to 3-8.
Vermillion JV hit 1 of 3 three-pointers and hit 8 of 15 from the line. The Tanagers hit 11 of 32 field goals, while Beresford was 6 of 29 from the field. Beresford hit 0 of 0 three-pointers and connected on 9 of 20 free throw attempts.
