Tanagers downed by Trojans 49-40 By Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers fell victim to a second-half rally and were downed by the West Central Trojans 49-40 in boys� basketball Jan. 25 at Hartford after falling prey to a 16-4 third-quarter deficit.

The Vermillion freshmen had led by seven at halftime.

Jerrod Freidel had a great all-around game both defensively and offensively.

The Tanagers jumped ahead 13-10 at the end of the first period, went into the locker room up 21-14 at halftime, and then trailed 30-25 going into the final period.

Vermillion freshmen lost the game from three-point range, making 1 of 5 from long range compared with 6 of 10 for WCHS.

�We played much better as a team,� said Vermillion freshmen coach Eric VanLaecken.

Vermillion freshmen saw its record fall to 2-5, while WCHS upped its mark to 4-2.

Vermillion sank 3 of 4 free throw attempts. The Tanagers connected on 18 of 40 from the field, while WCHS was 19 of 43 from the field. The Trojans sank 5 of 7 free throw tries.
