Tanagers trounce Dakota Valley 55-36 By Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers pulled away in the second half to shoot down the Dakota Valley Panthers 55-36 in boys� basketball Feb. 8 at home.
Vermillion had led by only one in the third period.
Chad Teigen scored 17 points, including three 3-pointers. Ben Oberle grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 7 points, going three-for-three from the free throw line.
The Tanagers led 18-17 after the opening period, led 25-24 at halftime, and then led 42-31 going into the fourth quarter.
The Tanagers heated things up from three-point range, hitting 5 of 9 from long distance.
�This was great total team effort,� said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska. �I was very proud of our bench. They gave us the spark we needed to complete the game. We used everyone to contribute for us to be successful. Good win for us.�
Vermillion improved its season mark to 7-8, while Dakota Valley fell to 4-11.
Vermillion made 6 of 10 from the line. The Tanagers connected on 22 of 57 from the field, while Dakota Valley was 15 of 43 from the field. The Panthers connected on 4 of 7 free throw attempts.
The Tanagers had several fine individual efforts in the victory.
�The entire 13-man roster played during the game and 11 of them made the scoring column,� coach Huska said.
