Trojans can't keep pace with Tanager JV By Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers defeated the West Central Trojans 52-45 in boys basketball Jan. 25 at West Central as the winners led after each quarter.
Jordan Boots scored 25 points, including five 3-pointers. Canka Wilch grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Tanagers took the lead 17-12 after the first quarter, and margins of 16-12 and 14-10 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 47-34 going into the final period.
Vermillion JV held onto the win from the free throw line, making 13 of 15 charity tosses to 5 of 8 for WCHS.
The Tanagers heated things up from three-point range, hitting 5 of 9 from long distance.
�We played very well,� said Vermillion JV coach Jon Reuvers. �It was a good victory on the road. We are learning and progressing with every game.�
Vermillion improved its record to 7-3, while WCHS dropped to 4-6.
The Tanagers connected on 17 of 42 from the field, while WCHS was 20 of 44 from the field.
