VHS JV topped by Trojans 43-29 By Jim Prosser The Vermillion girls� junior varsity Tanagers were topped by the West Central Trojans 43-29 in basketball action Feb. 10 at Hartford after being buried by a first-half deficit.
Paige Prosser scored six points.
�She really led a shell-shocked team back into the game in limited quarters,� said Vermillion JV coach Lenni Billberg.
West Central jumped in front 12-5 after the first quarter, and held an edge of 18-8 in the second quarter. Vermillion had an advantage of 8-6 in the third period to cut the deficit to 36-21 going into the final period.
�We started cold leaving us with a huge deficit to overcome,� said coach Billberg. �We let the aura of West Central take us out of our game.�
The loss dropped Vermillion to a record of 10-6, while West Central improved to 13-3.
Vermillion made 2 of 6 three-point tries and sank 3 of 13 free throw tries. The Tanagers made 12 of 35 field goals, while West Central was 19 of 39 from the field. West Central sank 2 of 5 three-point attempts and made 3 of 9 free throw tries.
The Tanagers had some excellent individual performances in defeat.
�Annika Sjolie, Anna Isaacson, Kinsey Weydert and the freshmen did everything in their power to bring us back into the game against a much bigger and stronger foe,� coach Billberg said.
