Swimming, diving squad to send 12 to nationals

Swimming, diving squad to send 12 to nationals Twelve student athletes on the South Dakota women's and men's swimming and diving team will compete in the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships March 9-12 in Orlando, FL.

The competitors include six members of the women's squad and six members of the USD men's team.

The South Dakota women's diving team will be represented by Jill Smolczyk of Omaha, NE, and Emilie Kluth of Columbus, NE, while Cole Moir of Cody, WY, of the USD men's team will participate at nationals. The three divers will take part in the NCAA Division II Pre-Qualification Meet on Tuesday, March 8.

The women's swimming squad is led by NCC Freshman of the Year, Leita Rolfe of Newcastle, WY, freshman Megan Gordon of Grand Rapids, MN, and Audrey Donley of Arvada, CO. Rolfe will compete in four individual events and two relays. She will participate in the 400 IM, the 200-IM, 200-Breast and 100-Breast.

Gordon will compete in the 200-Back and 100-Back.

Donley will compete in the 1,650-Free, 1,000-Free and 500-Free.

Rolfe, Gordon, Donley, and Brae Olson of Hutchinson, MN, will compete in the 200 Medley Relay and the 400-Medley Relay.

The USD men's team will compete in four relays, including the 200-Free Relay, 400-Free Relay, 200-Medley Relay and 400-Medley Relay. The 200-Free Relay will consist of Dirk Craft of Palmer, AK, John Murman of Lincoln, NE, Ryan Malone of Lincoln, NE, and Tim Byers of Billings, WY. The 200-Medley Relay will include Byers, Craft, Murman and Tyler Scheer of Lincoln, NE. The make-up of the other two USD relay squads has not been determined.

Individually, Craft will also compete in three events, including the 50-Free, 100 Free and 100-Breast.

Murman will compete in two events, including the 50-Free and 100 Free.

Byers will also participate in two events, including the 100-Back and 100 Fly.

Scheer will compete in the 100-Fly.
