USD softball team wins two in spring games The South Dakota softball team (4-6) picked up two wins on the final day of the Rebel Spring Games snapping its five-game losing streak by posting a 6-4 win over Clarion (PA) and 9-5 victory over Southern New Hampshire.
Against Clarion, Steph Bergman and Sarah Wrage each went 2-for-4, with Wrage hitting an RBI triple in the fourth inning.
After going down, 1-0, in the first inning, the Coyotes got three runs in the third inning and two in the fourth. USD held off Clarion's charge of three runs in the fifth inning.
Clarion outhit USD, 11-7.
On the mound, Alisha Yowell improved to 2-2 on the season, going 4 1/3 innings, giving up 11 hits and four runs, while striking out four.
Against Southern New Hampshire, South Dakota scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning and added three in the bottom of the fourth, backed by two hits apiece from Yowell, Angela Palma and Erin Corner. For the game, USD had seven hits including a triple from Yowell.
Junior Amber Terry won her first game of the season and Palma picked up her first save. Terry pitched five innings, giving up five hits and striking out one.
