Community Club hears reports The Siouxland blood bank is planning to be in Wakonda on May 4. They will receive donors from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Building. They are pleased to report that they received 20 units in their last visit here which was held at the School.
Tour de Kota
Two representatives, Barabra Yelverton, Vermillion, and Jeff Van Metterren of Yankton were present to promote the health bike-a-thon which will bring bikers through Wakonda on June 12. The club will sponsor some hosting services as the Multipurpose Room at Heritage Manor will be made available to them. Bathroom facilities as well as the proximity to the park were items for consideration.
Bake sale/lunch/egg hunt
The Community Club, working with the Jaycees, had the bake sale, lunch, and white elephant event along with the Easter egg hunt at the school on March 26.
The egg hunt was held on the school grounds while the bake sale, etc. was in the foyer of the new gym.
The Jaycees also provided an Easter bunny in the library for pictures. Both groups were pleased with the financial results. After expenses the club cleared $540.
Highway 46 sign
The sign on the north side of Highway 46 between the Viborg and Wakonda turnoffs has been in need of repair for some months and the club along with Heritage Manor has been in the process of getting it repaired for some time. A strong wind last fall blew off the middle section. Plans are to have it replaced before the tourist season begins.
The club is working along with the Vermillion Recycling Center on the possibility of having some sort of portable bins being available in Wakonda. For anyone who is interested, there is such a collection vehicle located near the Jones' Food Center/Ace Hardware in Vermillion. A number of details relative to transportation, frequency, etc. are being discussed.
PBS fund raising
South Dakota Public Broadcasting in Vermillion has contacted the Community Club for the possibility of club members participating in one of the telethons. The club members are considering participating. Anyone interested in helping with this project should give your name to the Club Secretary Charmaine Gullikson.
Several other items will be reported on in next weeks article. Over two dozen were in attendance for the informative meeting.
