Mickelson Trail photo contest entries sought The first annual Mickelson Trail Photo Contest, with categories for both professionals and amateurs, is scheduled June 5-10, in the Black Hills.
The 109-mile Mickelson Trail is a hiking and cycling route running through the Black Hills, from Deadwood in the north to Edgemont in the south. Photo contest winners will be selected in the fields of scenery and landscaping, wildlife and birdlife, macro and close-ups, people and recreation, abstract art, and history.
Prizes totaling $2000 have been committed by sponsors.
"This is an excellent opportunity for photographers of all levels to enjoy the Mickelson Trail and to test their photography skills in the beauty of the Black Hills," said contest coordinator Les Voorhis. "A variety of subjects await photographers. With all images to be made during the contest week, the playing field is level."

An orientation meeting is scheduled Saturday, June 4, 7 pm at Tatanka: Story of the Bison, near Deadwood.
