South Dakota men second, women fifth at Augustana The South Dakota men's golf team took home second place in the Augustana Spring Invitational, while the Coyote women finished fifth. Nine men's teams competed, while there were 10 on the women's side, playing April 2 at Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
USD's 309 placed them just two strokes behind South Dakota State for the team title on the 6,400-yard par-71.
The Coyote men were led by sophomore Jared Degen who finished second in a four-player three-hole playoff. After 18 holes, Degen was tied with three others for a three-over 74.
Degen's performance was followed up by a pair of 78's from senior's Jon Sorenson and Chris Knight.
Joe Pray, a sophomore competing as an individual, also carded a seven-over 78.
Other Coyote men's scores that were included in the team score were Ryan Bak's 79 and sophomore Jason Bontje's 85.
On the women's side, the Coyotes shot a 335, a stroke behind Dakota Wesleyan.
Individually, Karrie Plate (Vermillion) finished 12th with an eight-over 80 on the 5,800-yard par-72.
Freshman Brooke Bonte added an 83, while USD's remaining scores were an 85 from sophomore Krissy Woita and an 87 from freshman Amber Luitjens.
Minnesota State, Mankato won the event with a 305, while being led by Danielle Johnson's one-over 73.
