Tanager girls' golf team loses to Brookings By Jim Prosser The VHS Tanager girls golf team met the class AA Brookings Bobcats at The Bluffs on Friday April 1.
Facing one of the best high school girls golf teams in South Dakota was more than the local group could overcome. Considering the weather conditions (sunny, 50s-60s, windy) might have been a factor, but the Bobcats demonstrated an intensity of purpose not matched by the Tanagers. This result was an 18 hole match loss Brookings 352, Vermillion 384.
Individual scoring: Bobcats: Katie Scholten 78, Hallie Glover 86, Morgan Fitts 88, Megan Selberg 100, Ashley Hendricks 103. Tanagers: Jackie Thomas 87, Anna Isaacson 91, Sarah Christopherson 102, Chelsea Gauer 104, and Paige Prosser 124.
We werent mentally prepared for the first match of the season, said coach Kirk Hogen. I know the girls can perform at a more consistent higher level of competitive desire. It just didnt happen today. We have many opportunities to improve and prepare to challenge for the State Class A tournament championship. Eliminating a few strokes from each golfers score can make a huge difference for the team result. I expect that to occur as we progress through the season.
