Tanagers soundly defeat Panthers By Jim Prosser Taking advantage of four DakotaValley Panther pitchers, who suffered through four team errors, six bases on balls and three hit batters, the Tanagers overpowered the visitors 18-6 in a high school baseball encounter at Prentis Park in Vermillion last Thursday, April 7.
Everybody got into the act for the home team, including some reserves! The offense was impressive as they produced 11 hits in 25 at bats and every starter scored runs. Several had two each in the five inning shortened mercy ending.
Leading the offensive barrage were: Kyle Mollet � on base three times, two hits, two runs, three RBIs; and his replacement at third base; Ryan Gilbertson � one hit, one run; Ben Oberle on base three times, scored two runs with one RBI; JV�s Bobby Dykstra � one run; JV Reid Meierkort �1 for 1, one run, one rbi; John Gregg � one hit, one run, one RBI; Jason Donald� 1 for 2, two runs, four RBIs; Sam Laprath � 1 for 4, one hit, two runs; Zach Weiss � hit by pitch, one run, one RBI; Jordan Anderson � on base twice, two runs, two RBIs; replacement Brandon Hanson � 1 for 1, one rbi.
Brad Schaack was the winning pitcher going four innings. He gave up four runs on three hits, four walks, and six Ks.
He was replaced by Gilbertson who gave up two runs on one hit, one hit batter, one bb and one K.
Line scores: VHS � 18 runs, 11 hits, 4 errors, 4 lob; DVHS � 6 runs, 5 hits, 3 errors, 7 lob. Season record is now 3-2.
The JV suffered their second loss, 3-5, squaring their record at 2-2. Ryan Husby was the losing pitcher. He gave up seven hits and seven walks, but registered 10 Ks in the five inning game.
The offense was led by Meierkort � 2 for 3, one run; Tyler Thedorff � 1 for 2, two RBIs; Mike Ustad � 1 for 1, one run; Jerrod Freidel scored the other run.
