Vermillion wastewater treatment honored for excellence by DENR The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announces that the city of Vermillion wastewater treatment system is a recipient of the 2004 Operation and Maintenance Excellence Award.
This award is for outstanding wastewater system operation and environmental compliance with its state surface water discharge permit for the past year.
DENR is also recognizing the following operators for their excellent operation and maintenance of the city's wastewater system: Fred Balleweg, Paul Brunick, Robert Gilkyson, Roger Hauger, Bradley Swee and John Walker.
The award was presented during the 2005 South Dakota Water and Wastewater Association Operators Seminar held April 6-7 in Rapid City.
"DENR is proud to recognize these outstanding wastewater treatment systems and their operators who are dedicated to being the best in their business," said DENR Secretary Steve Pirner. "The high quality water they produce benefits us all."
Qualifications for the Operation and Maintenance Excellence Award are based on a system's compliance with state's environmental requirements, discharged water quality, monitoring reports, state inspections, and proper operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment facility.
