VHS Booster Club hosts track meet By Jim Prosser The Tanager girls� track team missed winning the VHS Invitational Meet, held Saturday, April 9, by two points.
Dakota Valley won the meet with 140 points while Vermillion took second with 138. The other schools places and point totals were � Lennox (98), third place; Tri-Valley (74) fourth place; Harrisburg (43) fifth place; and Alcester/Hudson (30) sixth place.
VHS scorers in field events were: Anne Carlson � first in the long jump (16'8") ; first in the high jump (5') which qualifies for the state track meet; and first in the triple jump (36'4").
Nicole Orr won both the 100M (16.0 seconds) and 300M hurdles (49.4 seconds). Calle Sorensen placed fifth in the 100M dash.; while Alisha Brown won both the 200M and 400M dashes with times of 27.6 seconds and 59.4 seconds respectively.
Emily Renner placed first in the 800M run (2:46), and first in the 1600M run (5:56.9); Katarina Gombocz finished second in the 3200M run.
In the relays, third place was scored in the 4X100M with members (Sorensen, Franziska Bonewitz, Brittney Babb and Annie Roche); the 4X200M relay team was first (Orr, Carlson, Roche and Brown). The 4X400M relay came in first (Orr, Babb, Roche and Brown) and the medley team of Sorensen, Babb, Roche and Gombocz placed second.
The South Sioux City Cardinals felt right at home by scoring 121 points to take first place in the VHS Booster Club Earlybird Invitational last Saturday, April 9. Other team places were: second � Vermillion (101); third � Lennox (98), fourth � Tri-Valley (84), fifth � Dakota Valley (60), sixth � Alcester/Hudson (57), seventh � Harrisburg (27).
Field events results for Vermillion were as follows: Discus � Jordan Anderson, sixth; shot put � Donnie Stewart, second; Anderson, fourth; high jump � Bobby Dykstra, second; long jump, Ben Oberle, second with a state qualifier distance of 20'7".
Oberle won the 100M dash in 11.2 seconds (state qualifier); Greg Anderson placed sixth. Oberle also won the 400M dash with another qualifying time of 51 seconds flat.
Michael Preszler was third in the 800M run, and DJ Donahoe placed sixth. Casey Carlson and Preszler were fourth and fifth in the 1600M run, and the 3200M run had JR Moore and AJ Manning coming in fourth and fifth.
Vermillion�s 4X100M relay team of Andrew Pier, Paul Hammond, Jerod Freidel and Ryan Powell placed second with a time of 48.9.
The 4X200M team of Pier, Hammond, Freidel and Powell placed third; and in the 1600M relay the Tanagers (Michael Oberle, Hammond, Freidel, and Powell) came in fourth.
The 4X800M team of Manning, Moore, Donahoe and Brody Stone was third, and fourth place was registered in the medley by Reid Meierkort, Hammond, Greg Anderson and Carlson.
