Wakonda track team gets another state qualifier By Ashley Anderson More and more Wakonda track runners are qualifying for the state meet.
Freshman, Katie Soko-lowski qualified in the high jump Thursday, April 14 with the jump of 5' at the Centerville Rotary Relays. So far there have only been two track athletes to qualify, Sokolowski and Rob Gregoire in both the 1600M relay and 3200M relay. Along with the great weather Wakonda high school and junior high athletes had a great day as well too.
Placing first in the 110M hurdles was Tyler Knudson with the time of 17.84. The boys' 3200M relay team, with Eric Skonhovd, Jordan Mayer, Nick Peterson, and Rob Gregoire, placed second with the time of 9:04.59. Sokolowski placed fourth in the 1600M with the time of 6:22.71. In the boys 1600M, Gregoire placed first with the time of 4:55.75 and Skonhovd right behind him with the time of 5:03.63 for second place.
The boys' 400M relay team placed sixth with the time of 52.47 (Jordan Mayer, Brian Donahue, Adam Alsdorf, and Tyler Knudson). Knudson also placed third in the 300M hurdles. The boys' medley relay team, Tyler Knudson, Brian Donahue, Mayer, and Peterson, placed sixth with the time of 4:22.08.
Sokolowski placed second in the 3200M with the time of 13:22.79. In the 3200M, Gregoire placed first in 10:39.36 and Skonhovd placed third with the time of 11:19.84. Sokolowski placed first in the girl's high jump at 5'.
As for the junior high team Casey Hessman placed first in the 1600M and first in the 800M. Kelli Johnston placed fifth in the 1600M, Jennifer Devine placed sixth in the 1600M. For the boys' discus Aaron Ness placed first, and for the boys' medley relay, Justin Polley, Rich Howard, Nick Wuebben, Daniel Sokolowski, placed fifth.
Hopefully the track team keeps up the hard work up to get as many state qualifiers as possible.
