Wakonda/Irene '05 basketball highlights The Wakonda/Irene seventh-grade boys' basketball team traveled to Tea on Jan. 8. The leading scorers for Wakonda/Irene were Matt Brue, 15 points; Justin Polley, 9 points; Dustin Muilenburg, 4 points; and Daniel Sokolowski, 3 points. Bubba Huether, Matt Schmidt, Zach Sorensen, Scott Kirschenman, Dylan Hauger and Tate Schroder scored 2 points each. Wakonda/Irene won 40-17.

The Wakonda/Irene eighth-graders won 44-41. The leading scorers were Brian Steffen, 10 points; Lane Stockland, 9 points; Andy Ganschow, 7 points; Luke Huber and Aarron Ness, 6 points each; and Evan Hansen, 2 points.

Wakonda/Irene then played Bon Homme. The seventh-graders lost a tough game 44-21. The leading scorers were Brue, 6 points; Polley, 5 points; Schmidt and Muilenburg, each with 4 points; and Kirschenman, 2 points.

The Wakonda/Irene eighth-graders lost to Bon Homme 39-28. The leading scorers were Hansen, 10 points; Josh Wagner, 7 points; Ganschow, 5 points; and Stockland and Steffen each with 3 points.

Wakonda/Irene then played Gayville/Volin. The seventh-graders won 39-20. The leading scorers for Wakonda/Irene were Muilenburg, 10 points; Schmidt, 9 points; Brue, 6 points; Polley, 5 points; Huether, Sokolowski, Kirschenman and Jacob McManus each with 2 points; Schroder, 1 point.

Wakonda/Irene eighth-graders lost 46-33 to Gayville Volin. Stockland had a game high 20 points, followed by Ganschow, 8 points; Huber, 3 points; and Ness, 2 points.

Wakonda/Irene played Parker next. Wakonda/Irene won 38-34. The leading scorers were Polley 13 points; Brue, 10 points; Schmidt and Sokolowski each with 6 points; Huether, 2 points; and Muilenburg, 1 point.

The Wakonda/Irene eighth-graders lost big to Parker 50-17. Stockland scored 6 points; Steffen, 5 points; Huber, 4 points; and Wagner, 2 points.

Wakonda/Irene then played Viborg. Viborg won 44-37. The leading scorers for Wakonda/Irene were Polley, 11 points; Muilenburg, 9 points; Huether, 5 points; Schmidt and Sokolowski, each with 4 points; Brue, 3 points.

The Wakonda/Irene eighth-graders beat Viborg 48-28. The leading scorers were Stockland, 21 points; Wagner, 11 points; Ganschow, 7 points; Ness and Hansen each with 3 points; Rich Howard with 2 points; and Huber with 1 point.

Wakonda/Irene then played Scotland. The seventh-graders won 27-13. Huether and Muilenburg each had 8 points; Polley, 5 points; Schmidt, 4 points; Brue and Hauger, each with 2 points.

The Wakonda/Irene eighth-graders won 29-22. Ganschow had the game high with 9 points, followed by Stockland and Ness each with 6 points; Steffen, 5 points; Polley with 2 points and Huber, 1 point.

The Wakonda/Irene eighth-graders played in a tournament. Wakonda/Irene won 26-22 over Gayville/Volin. Ganschow had 9 points; Wagner, 6 points; Huber, 4 points; Steffen, Stockland, Hansen, Ness and Polley each scored 2 points.

Wakonda/Irene then played Freeman Academy and lost 39-17. Scorers were Ganschow with 5 points; Wagner, 4 points; Ness, 2 points; and Stockland with 6 points.

Wakonda/Irene played Hurley, and won 28-21. Stockland had 8 points; Wagner, 6 points; Polley, 5 points; Ness, 4 points; Ganschow, 3 points; and Huber, 2 points.

Wakonda/Irene played Alcester/Hudson, and won 39-27. Stockland had 18 points; Huber, 7 points; Ness, 5 points; Ganschow, 3 points; Steffen, Polley and Huether each had 2 points.

Wakonda/Irene beat Hurley 51-42. The leading scorers for Wakonda/Irene were Ganschow, 18 points; Stockland, 13 points; Ness, 8 points; Huber, 4 points; Steffen and Polley each with 3 points; and Wagner with 2 points.

Wakonda/Irene then traveled to Gayville for a tournament. Wakonda/Irene played Freeman Academy first. The score was 33-22. The leading scorers for Wakonda/Irene were Stockland, 9 points; Polley, 6 points; Ganschow, 4 points; Seth Fuhrer, 2 points; Huber, 1 point.

Wakonda/Irene played Gayville and lost, 36-25. Wagner and Ness each had 9 points; Howard and Polley had 2 points each; Ganschow, Huber and Stockland each had 1 point.

Wakonda/Irene played Viborg and won 29-27. Stockland had game high with 11 points; Steffen had 5 points; Huber and Howard each had 4 points; Ganschow, 3 points and Wagner, 2 points.

Avon beat Wakonda/Irene, 30-10. Ness had 4 points; Huber, Ganschow and Wagner each had 2 points.

The Wakonda/Irene seventh-graders took first place in the Gayville tournament.

Wakonda/Irene played Gayville first, and won 39-25. The leading scorers were Polley, 13 points; Huether, 9 points; Schmidt, 5 points; Sokolowski and McManus each with 4 points; and Brue, 3 points.

Wakonda/Irene played Viborg, and won 36-26. Sokolowski scored 10 points; Schmidt, 8 points; Brue, 6 points; and Polley, Huether, Muilenburg and Hauger each scored 2 points.

Wakonda/Irene played Yankton and won 25-18. The leading scorers were Brue, 6 points; Polley, 5 points; Sokolowski, 4 points; Huether, 3 points; Schmidt, McManus and Sorensen each with 2 points. Job well done, seventh-graders.

The Wakonda/Irene junior high boys placed second at the Tri-Valley tournament.

Wakonda/Irene played Hurley in first round action. Wakonda/Irene won 49-38. Leading scorer was Stockland, 12 points; Polley, 9 points; Ganschow, 8 points; Ness and Steffen, each with 6 points; and Wagner, Huether and Schmidt, each with 2 points.

Wakonda/Irene played Baltic next, and won 52-47. Wagner had game high with 12 points; Stockland and Polley each had 9 points; Ganschow, 8 points; Huber and Steffen each had 4 points; Huether, 3 points; Howard, 2 points; Ness had 1 point.

Wakonda/Irene played Freeman Academy again and lost the championship game, 42-62. Wagner scored 9 points; Ness and Steffen, 8 points each; Polley, 4 points; Huber and Stockland, 3 points each; Ganschow, Howard and Schmidt each had 2 points; and Hansen, 1 point.
