Beresford evens score with win over Tanagers By Jim Prosser The Tanager varsity, plagued by errors, lost their return contest to the Watchdogs in Beresford on Wednesday, April 27. The weather continued to be chilly with winds gusting to 20 mph.
Brad Schaack was the victim of five team errors as he gave up only two earned runs in his six-inning performance which included seven hits, two walks, and seven Ks, to suffer his first loss of the season.
The winning pitcher was Beresford�s Dayne Goodman, even though giving up nine hits while registering 10 Ks.
Line scores: Vermillion � 3 runs, 9 hits, 5 errors, 7 lob; Beresford � 6 runs, 7 hits, 0 errors, 9 lob.
Tanager scorers were Ben Oberle � 3 for 4, 2 runs, 1 rbi; Kyle Mollett � 1 for 3, 1 rbi; and Zach Weiss � 2 for 3, 1 run. The varsity record is 8-4 .
The JV team salvaged some respect by shutting out the Watchdogs� JV 7-0. Ryan Gilbertson was the winning pitcher in the four-inning game. Seven players on the roster scored a run each with prior agreement.
The contributors to the scoring were: Kyle Brunick � 2 for 3, 1 run; Gilbertson � 1 for 2, 1 run, 1 rbi; CJ Haakinson � 1 for 1, 1 run, 2 RBIs; Ryan Husby � 1 run, 1 rbi. Paul Hammond, Bobby Dykstra, and Eric McPherson each scored a run.
JV record is 5-2-1.
