Boys' and girls' track teams attend Yankton/Alcoa Relays By Jim Prosser The Tanager varsity and sophomore track teams were entered against several area schools at the Alcoa Relays last Thursday, April 28, at the Yankton Athletic Complex.
Participating teams were: Brandon Valley, Dakota Valley, Hanson Co., Huron, Lennox, Mitchell, O�Gorman, Vermillion, and Yankton. No team points were tabulated.
Individual VHS varsity boys� results for the events, in the order they were reported, were as follows:
Boys� discus � Jordan Anderson, second.
Dashes: 200M � Ben Oberle, first (state qualifying time 22.58 seconds); 400M � Ben Oberle, first (58.82 seconds).
Distance runs: 1600M � Mike Preszler, 10th; Casey Carlson, 11th.
Relays: Sprint medley � sixth (Andrew Pier, Ryan Powell, Preszler, and Carlson).
Sophomores: Reid Meierkort � fourth in the 100M dash; Paul Hammond sixth and Meierkort seventh in the 200M dash.
In the distance runs, the results were: 800M � DJ Donahoe, 11th; 1600M � Donahoe, 14th; Brody Stone, 16th; 3200M � AJ Manning, second; JR Moore, third. Mike Oberle placed ninth in the 300M hurdles.
The team of Hammond, Jerrod Freidel, Powell, and Greg Anderson won the 4x100M relay (time 48.56); the 200M relay team also placed first in 1:41.43 (Hammond, Freidel, Mike Oberle, and Anderson); the team consisting of M. Oberle, G. Anderson, Freidel, and Hammond placed fourth in the 4x400M relay.
The girls� division results follow:
Varsity dashes � Alicia Brown won both the 200M and 400M with times of 25.39 in the 200, and a school record state qualifying time 57.43 in the 400. Distance runs � Katarina Gombocz, seventh in the 1600M; Emily Renner, sixth in the 3200M. In the high jump, Annie Carlson tied for first at 4-09 feet.
In the varsity relays: the team of Annie Roche, Brittney Babb, Carlson, and Brown placed second in the 4x100M, and third in the 4x200M; while the team of Calle Sorensen, Babb, Roche, and Brown finished fourth in the sprint medley.
Sophomore section: Calle Sorensen and Franziska Bonewitz were 13th and 14th in the 100M dash; Krista Froke placed 12th in the 200M dash.
Froke was sixth and Kinsey Weydert ninth in the 300M hurdles.
The foursome of Sorensen, Froke, Weydert, and Bonewitz placed third in the 4x100M relay.
The sophomore field events showed Froke, sixth in the high jump; Kayla Anglin and Bonewitz were 15th and 16th in the shot put; and 15th and 19th in the discus throw.
