Brian Bertrand named May Employee of the Month at USD Brian Bertrand, a senior building maintenance worker in The University of South Dakota's Facilities Management Office, is the Career Service Employee of the Month for May.
Bertrand was presented with the award from President James W. Abbott at a ceremony on April 29.
Bertrand was nominated by Joel Nielsen, director of athletics, for his quick thinking and action in responding to a significant facility issue at the DakotaDome during a major South Dakota tournament.
"The DakotaDome received numerous comments that weekend ? all of which would have been soured if not for Brian's work and the work of many in Facilities Management," said Nielsen.
In honor of his willingness to go the extra mile, and in addition to a plaque and check for $50, Bertrand was also presented with an official autographed Coyote football actually used during one of last season's games.
Bertrand thanked his family, friends and co-workers and was grateful for Nielsen's nomination.
"It's really nice to get this," Bertrand said. "I really appreciate this."
Bertrand and his wife Renda live in Gayville. They have three daughters, Adisson, Maggie and Steph, and one son, Travis.
