Community volunteers make local church shine By Ashley Anderson Community members and their families have come together to help the United Church of Christ.
On Saturday, April 23, the church members and their families scraped off all the outside paint and started putting on the first coat of primer.
It didn't take long to scrape off the old paint thanks to Jim Barnett, a volunteer, who power washed the exterior walls a couple weeks before the painters went to work.
Barnett also volunteered to clean and re-putty the church's stained glass windows.
Church members served lunch on Saturday, April 23, for the workers who volunteered their time from 10:30 a.m. till 5 p.m.
The Two River's Association of the United Church of Christ held its regular meeting on Saturday, April 30, and then started to paint again after lunch until about 5 p.m. They finished the the entire front part of the church exterior and scraped the side walls while someone was inside washing the stained glass windows.
The workers are almost finished with the scraping and painting, and the church looks great.
After a couple more weekends of the effort, the building's new paint job should be complete.
