Tanager track teams participate in Canton Invite By Jim Prosser Last Monday, April 25, a contingent of eight girls� and boys� Class A teams participated in the Canton Invitational.
Vermillion High School was represented by a less than complete roster in both the girls� and boys� divisions. But, while no Tanagers were entered in the girls� field events, the 200M dash had Annie Roche placing fourth, and Nicole Orr placing fifth in the 100M hurdles.
Other individual Tanager placers were: Emily Renner � first in the 1600M (5:33.5), state qualifier; and Katarina Gombocz was first in the 3200M timed in 12:09.66.
Three Tanager girls� relay teams placed in the meet: the 4x200M relay team was first (Orr, Annie Carlson, Roche, and Alicia Brown) 1:49.43; fifth place was claimed by the 4×100 relay team (Calle Sorensen Krista Froke, Kinsey Weydert, and Franziska Bonewitz). The foursome of Brittney Babb, Roche, Renner and Alicia Brown won the Medley with a time of 4:28.58 minutes. The Tanager girls finished in sixth place with 51 points.
The Tanager boys finished in fifth with 58 points. Placing in the field events for Vermillion were Donny Stewart, first, 48 feet, and Jordan Anderson, third, in the shot put. Ben Oberle placed fourth in the long jump; and Bobby Dykstra was third in the high jump.
Running events had Ben Oberle winning the 100M dash with a time of 11.43 seconds. Casey Carlson and Mike Preszler were fifth and sixth in the 1600M run.
The 4×200 relay team of Paul Hammond, Jerrod Freidel, Ryan Powell, and Ben Oberle was third; the same foursome placed second in the 4x100M; and the Medley team came in third (Hammond, Freidel, Preszler, and Carlson).
