Youth construction program slated in June If you are a youth age 14-17 and you aren't sure how to make the most of your summer, you should do something constructive and enroll in the South Dakota Construction Connections (SDCC) program.
The three-week program, scheduled to run from June 6-24, is open to youth from Yankton and surrounding communities. Activities, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday each of those weeks, will include speakers, field trips and other on-site learning opportunities.
During the SDCC program, youth will spend time exploring construction-related careers and learning how to operate the tools of the trade. Participants will also gain hands-on construction experience as they work as a team to build a playhouse/garden shed from start to finish.
Last year, youth taking part in the program constructed the "Z" House, a playhouse that was ultimately donated to help raise funds for the Yankton Area Cancer Society Relay for Life.
