Boys' 10-Under team places second in Alcester tourney By Jim Prosser The Vermillion boys' 10 and under team placed second in the Alcester tournament on May 21 and 22.

The first game was a 6-1 win over Worthing with Jake Hogen and Collin Bertram combining for a 13-strikeout masterpiece. Hogen and Chayse Meierkort led the team with two hits each.

Game two was a nine-inning thriller which Vermillion dropped 2-1 against Canton. Hogen, Tanner Settles, and Bertram combined for 21 Ks.

Game three was a no hitter by Hogen and Settles. Meierkort drove in two runs with a two-hit game, and Tanner Anderson reached base twice in the 2-0 win.

The championship games were double elimination and Vermillion won the first game 3-0, again led by strong pitching and timely hitting.

The second game went to Canton 6-1, giving the second place trophy to Vermillion.

Hogen led the pitching corps with 38 Ks for the weekend.
