Chapman elected alderman Tuesday

Chapman elected alderman Tuesday Vermillion businessman Jere Chapman defeated incumbent Southeast Ward Alderman Dennis Zimmerman in Tuesday's municipal election, and will begin a three year term on the Vermillion City Council July 5.

Chapman received 220 votes, and Zimmerman garnered 150 votes. Voter turnout in the ward was approximately 19 percent.

The other ward positions were not contested. Petitioners Nathan J. Adams and Roger G. Jeck will take office on July 5, representing the Northwest and Central wards respectively. Kevin Annis will continue to serve in the Northeast Ward.
