Girls 5th, boys 15th in state track competition By Jim Prosser The Tanager boys� and girls� track teams were in Madison on Friday and Sioux Falls on Saturday, May 27 and 28, participating in the SDHSAA State Meet among the 20 qualifying schools in the class A division.
The girls placed fifth and the boys finished in 15th.
The Tanager contingent included 15 individual tracksters competing in 18 different events.
The results for entrants in the girls� section were:
Alicia Brown � first in the 200M dash (25.25 seconds), first in the 400M dash (57. 97 seconds); Nicole Orr � eighth in the 100M hurdles.
The 4x400M relay team won the race in 4:07.85 (Nicole Orr, Brittnay Babb, Annie Roche, and Alicia Brown). The same foursome placed third in the 4x200M relay, and the sprint medley team of Brittney Babb, Annie Roche, Sarah Day, and Emily Renner came in eighth.
The top 10 in the final team standings among the girls� teams were: 1. West Central; 2. Aberdeen Roncalli; 3. Elk-Point-Jefferson; 4. Madison; 5. Vermillion; 6. Gregory; 7. Tri-Valley; 8. Beresford; 9. Dakota Valley; 10. Bon Homme.
For the boys� section, individual results for Vermillion were:
100M dash � Ben Oberle third; 200M dash � Ben Oberle third; and 400M dash � Ben Oberle third. While Bobby Dykstra and Donny Stewart competed in the meet, they didn�t reach the eight place winners in their events.
