Girls U-14 Stingers go 2-3 in BV invitational By Jim Prosser The Brandon Valley tourney pitted the U-14 Vermillion Stingers softball team against Brandon Explosion in the first round game played at the Brandon softball complex on Saturday, May 21.

The result of game one was an Explosion victory 3-0.Vermillion had only one hit as the home team faced starting pitcher Jenny Bye who gave up three hits and one walk, while registering seven Ks. Chelsea Houska was 1 for 2 in the five-inning game.

Game two matched Stingers vs. Sioux Falls Ice. With Brianna Brinkman tossing a one-hit shutout, and the team scoring 10, the final result was no mystery. Brinkman walked four and struck out seven in the 3 1/2-inning stint.

Here is listing of the individual scoring: Brinkman � 2 runs on 2 for 3 batting; Houska � 2 runs; Donica Crichton � 2 for 2, 1 run; Ashley Ouellette and Jenny Bye � 1 run, each; Brittany Bye � 1 for 2, 1 run; Megan Amundson � 1 for 2, 1 run; Chelsea Allen � 1 for 2, 1 run.

On Sunday, May 22, the Stingers had an engagement with the SF Untouchables in the third round game. This time the results were not to our liking as Jenny and Brittany Bye shared the pitching chores in the four-inning game giving up seven runs while their teammates could muster only two runs. Brinkman and Jenny Bye scored the runs.

The fourth game was a three-inning �laffer� for the Stingers as they prevailed 17-0 against Big City

Motors of BV. Brittany Bye and Chelsea Houska shared the no-hit shutout. Scoring for the Stingers: Houska � 3 for 3, 2 runs; Ouellette � 2 for 3, 2 runs; Chrichton � 1 for 3, 1 run; Jenny Bye � 2 for 2, 2 runs; DeNell Dykstra � 1 for 3, 2 runs; Amundson � 2 for 3, 2 runs; Chelsea Allen scored twice on 2 for 2 hitting.

The final game placed Stringers against Brandon Blast, with the final score 11-8 in favor of Blast. Jenny and Brittany Bye again shared the pitching duties with Jenny giving up five runs in two innings, surrendering four hits and three BBs, while Britt gave up six runs on six hits, three BBs and four Ks.

Offense for the Stingers: Brinkman � 4 for 1, 1 run; Houska � 1 for 4, 1 run; Ouellette � 1 for 4, 1 run; Chrichton � 2 for 4, 2 runs; Jenny Bye � 1 for 3, 1 run; Dykstra � 1 for 3, 1 run; Amundson scored the other run.

Their record is 2-3 in the early 2005 season.
