Lewis & Clark Classic day 2 & 3 reports By Jim Prosser The results of the second day of competition in the Challenge at Riverside Park: Gretna � 2, Yankton � 0; Mitchell � 2 Gretna � 1; Mitchell � 2, Gretna � 1; Mitchell � 7, Blair � 0; Yankton � 8, Blair-7. At Prentis Park: Norfolk � 8, Vermillion � 0; Norfolk � 7, West � 4; Bryan � 8, Vermillion � 0.

In the third game for Vermillion played on day two, Post #1 had another bad time, this one against Norfolk as Rob Noelle pitched a two hit shutout masterpiece for the visitors. Eric Chase was the victim for the loss.

Line score: Norfolk � 8 R, 12 H, 1 E, 6 LOB; Post #1 � 0 R, 2 H, 4 E, 3 LOB.

Kyle Mollet and Ryan Mockler were the Vermillion hitters.

The fourth and final game of day two was yet another loss for the Vermillionites! Played at Prentis Park, Omaha Bryan enjoyed a two hit shutout for Post #1 as Ryan Frank pitched a gem for the visitors. Ryan Gilbertson took the loss.

Line score: Bryan � 8 R, 3 H, 0 E, 5 LOB; Post #1 � 0 R, 2 H, 3 E, 4 LOB.

Ben Oberle and Zach Weiss each had a single to show for the total offense.

The standings for the South Dakota contingent after the preliminary rounds were; Mitchell � first (4-0), Yankton � second (2-2) West � third (2-2),Vermillion � fourth (0-4 ).

Nebraska's group standings: Gretna � first (3-1), Norfolk � second (2-2), Bryan � third (2-2), Blair � fourth (1-3 ).

The finals were played on Sunday with the first and second-ranked teams facing off for third and first places on the Riverside Diamond, and the third and fourth seeded teams pairing off for seventh and fifth places at Prentis Park, for the final standings in the Challenge.

Blair placed seventh with a 9-2 win over Vermillion. Ryan Seefus recorded 14 Ks while giving up four hits. B.J. Campbell went 1 for 3 with a run, and Jordan Anderson was 1 for 2 with one run. Reid Meierkort had an RBI on 1 for 3 hitting. Jeff Donnelly had an RBI.

Campbell was charged with the loss.

Sioux Falls West placedfifth with a 2-1 win over Omaha Bryan; Norfolk placed third, winning 2-1 over Yankton; and the championship was earned by Gretna with their 2-1 victory over Mitchell.
