Marc Zimiga honored by Modern Woodmen Marc Zimiga has received the Modern Woodmen Hometown Hero award for his volunteer work with Zim's Gym.
Zimiga started Zim's Gym so that young people would have a place not only to learn the art of boxing and physical fitness, but can also experience a sense of camaraderie. They are taught skills that will enhance them physically and mentally.
Zimiga and his assistant coaches James Zimiga and Ron LaMie coach 13-plus students. They give their time and resources on a volunteer basis.
In recognition of Zimiga's efforts, Modern Woodmen's Vermillion camp 2480 presented him with a certificate and sent a $100 contribution to the charity of his choice: Zim's Gym.
Improving the quality of life for its members and its communities is Modern Woodmen's mission and Zimiga's volunteer service efforts do just that, said Cathy Lynch, district representative from Yankton. The Hometown Heroes program helps acknowledge and thank volunteers across the country.
Founded in 1883 as a fraternal benefit society, today Modern Woodmen of America offers financial services and fraternal member benefits to individuals throughout the United States.
