Missouri River drowning victim is recovered June 21

Missouri River drowning victim is recovered June 21 The Clay County Sheriffs Office and the Vermillion/Clay County Search and Rescue Unit recovered the body of Ron Christensen of Vermillion June 21.

Christensen was reported missing on April 15 while boating on the Missouri River near the mouth of the Vermillion River. An extensive search was conducted over the past two months using the resources of several agencies.

The body was spotted June 21 by a resident living along the Missouri River at the location where Christensens boat was found on April 15.

Christensen had been boating on April 15 with two dogs in his boat. After he was reported missing, his boat was recovered capsized and one dog was found alive on the river bank.

On April 21, the second dog was found drowned downstream of the capsized boat.

It is believed that Christensen remained underwater for over two months due to cold water temperatures and the presence of underwater entrapments and surfaced June 21 due to warmer temperatures and increased runoff from recent storms.
