Post #1 BB team cops DH vs. Dakota Valley Post #319 by Jim Prosser Sometime the stats of a game are overpowering. The Vermillion Post #1 team faced DV Post # 319 on Thursday, June 16, in a double header at Prentis Park with unusual outcomes.
In game #1, Vermillions Kyle Mollet pitched a scoreless, no hit, four-inning stint, walking two, while the team had an errorless showing (for a change).
Line scores: Dakota Valley 0 runs, 0 hits, 3 errors, 2 lob; Vermillion 11 runs, 5 hits, 0 errors, 5 lob.
Post #1 took advantage of some timely hitting and several miscues in the early innings, to build a 4-0 advantage, then made the necessary defensive plays to thwart any effort that Post #319 attempted. They then put the game away with a seven-run third inning.
Batting and scoring Vermillion players: Ben Oberle 1 run; Mollet 1 for 2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs; Reid Meierkort 1 for 3, 1 run, 3 RBIs; Ryan Mockler 1 for 2 , 1 run; BJ Campbell 1 for 1, 1 run, 1 rbi; Jordan Anderson 1 for 2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs; Eric Chase, Jason Donald, and Ryan Gilbertson each scored a run.
Game #2 became a four-inning rout as Post #1 racked up 10 runs on 9 hits and commited only one error.
Brad Schaack scored his first win of the season when he held DV scoreless on two hits, two walks, registering five Ks. He was backed up by some excellent fielding in fact, seven of the 15 put outs came from non pitching efforts.
Leading the offense was Eric Chase who just missed hitting for a cycle as he punched out a triple, double and single with his 3 at bats, 3 runs and 1 rbi; Oberle went 1 for 3 batting, 1 run. He was followed closely by Meierkort going 1 for 3, scoring 1. Campbell went 1 for 2, with 1 run; Mollet drove in a run on a sac fly; Mockler went 1 for 1, 1 run, 2 RBIs; Gilbertson was 1 for 2 with 1 run scored, and 3 RBIs; Brandon Hansen was 1 for 2, 1 run and 2 RBIs .
The combined win-loss brings the season record to 9-6.
