S.D. quarter design approved Governor Mike Rounds has announced that the United States Secretary of the Treasury John W. Snow has given final approval for the design for the South Dakota quarter selected by the people of South Dakota.
From January through April of 2005, the people of South Dakota were asked to pick their favorite from a field of five quarter designs. Over 172,000 votes were cast on the Internet or in South Dakota banks and credit unions.
More than 38 percent of the South Dakota voters (65,766) selected a depiction of Mount Rushmore and the ring-necked pheasant framed by two heads of wheat as their favorite design for the South Dakota quarter.
The South Dakota quarter is scheduled for release in November 2006.
