Teeners on a winning streak The Vermillion 13-14 year-old teeners went to Missouri Valley, Canton and Tea for double headers. In Tabor on Monday evening, Vermillion broke open a close game in the third inning with six runs enroute to a 16-5 win. The second game was against the 15-16 year-old Missouri Valley team. The game was called due to rain with the score tied at 3 after four innings.
Canton and Vermillion met on Friday evening. Both teams played solid defense and after five innings Vermillion held a slim 2-0 lead. Vermillion was able to add five runs in the top of the seventh to win 7-0. Good defense and pitching contributed to Vermillion retiring 21 of 24 Canton batters. In game two Vermillion batted around in the first inning and went on to score seven runs. The final was 17-7 in five innings.
Sunday afternoon in Tea found Vermillion in a scoreless game after two innings with the Tea 13-14 year-olds. Then Vermillion broke out and scored 15 runs over the next four innings to end the game after six with a score of 15-0. Vermillion took control early in game two by scoring 10 runs in the first inning and eventually won in three innings by a score of 22-3.
The team's record stands at 15-1. Vermillion travels to Wagner on Tuesday and plays in the Yankton tournament on Friday and Saturday.
