U-16 Vermillion Ice open 2005 season with victory By Jim Prosser The U-16 Vermillion Ice softball team faced the Yankton Angels in a double header on Tuesday, May 31 with great results � winning two at the Yankton softball complex to open the 2005 season.

In game one, Alicia Brown pitched an eight-hit, five-run complete game which also included two walks and four Ks. The Ice prevailed as they came up with 10 runs on five hits plus 12 BBs.

Vermillion scoring stats were: Annie Roche ��2 runs (on base 3 times with walks); Ariel Hofman � 2 for 4, 2 rbis; Mary Ann Bierle � 1 for 1, 1 run, 1 rbi; Kinsey Weydert � 1 for 3, 1 run; Brittni Stewart � 1 for 3 (a triple), 1 run, 2 rbis; Alicia Brown � 1 run, 2 rbis; Kaili Johnson � 1 run; Margeret Mueller � 2 runs; Katie Kasius � 1 run.

Game two was a whitewash for the Ice as they accumulated 12 runs when the Angels pitchers gave up 14 walks and 7 hits during the five-inning contest. Arial Hofman pitched a three-run, six-hit steady game, walking two and registering six Ks.

Individual scoring: Bierle � 1 for 2, 1 run, 2 rbis; Weydert � 1 for 1, 2 runs, 1 rbi; Anna Isaacson � 1 run, 1 rbi; Stewart � 1 run, 1 rbi; Brown � 1 for 1 plus 2 BBs, 3 runs; Roche � 2 runs; and Kasius 2 for 3, 1 run, 1 rbi.
