Upper Midwest Summer Music Camp set at USD The University of South Dakota will host the 54th Annual Upper Midwest Summer Music Camp July 10-15 at the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts.
"There are lots of different ensemble options, so you get a good variety of opportunities, but you don't have to do everything if you don't want to," said Ellen Odson, a camp alumna.
USD's Upper Midwest Summer Music Camp is a six-day experience of learning and music making open to students in grades six to 12. Taught by some of the leading music educators from the university and the region, campers have opportunities to participate in both instrumental and choral activities.Large ensembles like symphonic band, concert choir, jazz band and show choir are offered, as well as smaller classroom workshops and private lessons.
Highlights of this year's camp include a hand bell ensemble and a workshop in world music drumming.
Three-year camp alumna and current USD student Angela Gough recommends the experience to students with any level of interest in music.
"The camp helped me to grow musically, expressively, and even emotionally as a person," Gough said.
