USD hosts Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar The University of South Dakota will host the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar, to be held Friday, June 10 through Sunday, June 12.
Speakers include Jere Chapman, a Vermillion businessman who owns Fox's Den Restaurant, Vermillion Mayor Dan Christopherson, Michelle Rydell from Sharing the Dream in Guatemala and USD student Tyler Beisch, among others.
Eighty-nine high school sophomores from across the state of South Dakota will attend the three-day seminar, which teaches the students how to take their leadership skills and build on them to become the leaders of tomorrow, according to Matt Strom, organizer of the event.
Over the course of the seminar, the students will learn about government, education, media, volunteerism and entrepreneurship as each relates to leadership.
"They (the students) will learn "how" to think, not "what" to think," Strom said.
This is the first time the event will be held at USD. It has been held in various locations throughout Sioux Falls since the event's inception in the mid-1970's.
If anybody has any questions with regards to the event, they are encouraged to email Strom at Mstrom0@sio.midco.net.
