Vermillion Teeners play in SSC Tournament By Jim Prosser The Teener baseball team had a tough time at the South Sioux City Invitational on June 10-12.

Game #1 was a 4-3 loss to Sioux City North. CJ Haakinson was the losing pitcher as he gave up four runs on five hits. Jerrod Freidel, Jackson Freidel, and Jordan Merrigan each scored a run, and Paul Hammond, Nick Rasmussen, and Matt Nelson each were credited with an RBI.

Ryan Husby started the second game, going six innings. He gave up 14 runs on 12 hits while registering seven Ks. Vermillion could only respond with five runs and suffered their second tourney loss to Pierce, NE 14- 5.

Offense stats: Paul Hammond � 2 for 3, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Jerrod Freidel � 3 for 4, 1 run, 1 RBI; Matt Nelson � 2 for 3, 1 run; Jordan Merrigan � 1 for 3, 1 run.

Game # 3 was another high scoring affair with Sioux Falls Teeners building a 13-4 advantage after three innings and rolling to a 17-5 five-inning game. Jerrod Freidel took the loss, giving up 10 runs on eight hits, and CJ Haakinson finished up .

Paul Hammond led the offense, scoring 2 on 2 for 2 hitting, with 1 RBI; Eric McPherson � 2 for 3, 1 run, 2 RBIs; Matt Nelson � 1 run; Casey Carlson � 1 run.

The fourth and final game for Vermillion in the tournament turned out to be the most exciting as Elk Point was the adversary. Nick Rasmussen started and gave up eight runs on four hits. McPherson took over and was charged with four runs on five hits. Errors and bases on balls were costly since the Redbirds could muster only 11 runs.

Offensively: Hammond scored 1 run on 1 for 3 batting; Jerrod Freidel scored once with 1 RBI on 2 for 4 at bats; McPherson � 2 for 3, 1 run, 1 RBI; Rasmussen � 1 for 3, 1 run, 1 RBI; Haakinson � 1 run; Tyler Thedorff went 2 for 3, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Jackson Freidel � 1 for 2, 1 run, 1 RBI; Merrigan � 1 for 2, 1 run, 1 RBI; and Nelson � 2 for 2, 1 run, 2 RBIs.

The Dustin Larson-coached Vermillion Teeners� record is now 1-5.
