Craig, Merrigan are re-elected to school board leadership Monday The Vermillion School Board elected Tom Craig as chairman and Nick Merrigan as vice-chairman at its annual reorganization meeting Monday night.
In addition, Mike Granaas was sworn in for another three-year term and begins his second term on the Vermillion board. Jim McCulloch was appointed school district attorney. The Plain Talk was designated the school district�s official newspaper.
New owner of the school district�s transportation system, Dave Vollbracht, was recognized and assured the board of his desire for continued quality bus service. He indicated that the Vermillion program was a foundation for development of his transportation system in South Dakota.
Merrigan reported that the local fund raising project by the Athletic Booster Club for new bleachers has brought in approximately $28,000. The bleachers will be installed in the high school gymnasium during the last couple weeks of July.
In new business, the board approved hiring of three teachers: Lynne Bye, early childhood special education; Carrie Koble, kindergarten; and Sara Hage, first grade. The resignation of high school special education teacher, Becky Berry, was approved.
The board tentatively scheduled a day-long district planning meeting to be held on Sept. 9 at the Administrative Services Building.
