Gov. Rounds approves CDBG grant for Vermillion Gov. Mike Rounds announced June 30 that the city of Vermillion will receive a $360,500 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to complete improvements to its water treatment plant.
We are pleased to assist the city of Vermillion in providing this vital service, Gov. Rounds said. Vermillion has made a commitment to its residents by carrying out a plan for improvements that ensures quality and reliable service for its customers.
The treatment plant was built in 1972. Much of the equipment still in use was installed with the original system and is out of date and inefficient.
Phases I and II of the improvement project included installing an emergency generator and completing updates to the building which houses water treatment equipment. CDBG funds will help complete the third and final phase of the project. Space will be added in order to accommodate staff and provide an area for employee training. An additional clarifier will also be installed and supporting chemical feeding and handling system updates will be made as phase III moves forward.
All CDBG projects are an important part of the states 2010 Initiative goal to stabilize rural populations through community development.
