Local author's book receives achievement award The Series Animal Wise from Picture Window Books has been honored with the 2005 distinguished Achievement Award for Children's Nonfiction. The Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) announced winners on Wednesday, June 8, in Washington, D.C.
The highly reviewed and well-received Animal Wise, written by Patricia M. Stockland and illustrated by Todd Ouren, is a six-book series for ages 5-8, grades K-2. The informational picture books meet national curriculum standards while explaining various animal adaptations through a colorful, engaging format. Brilliant illustrations and lyrical text answer reader questions about why animals look, move, and live in similar and different ways. Each book also includes fun facts, an activity, a glossary, and an index.
